SAMBOJA LESTARI ECO LODGE
Samboja Lestari is an area of restored tropical rainforest, near the city of Balikpapan in East Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo.
It is the home of the Orangutan Reintroduction Program, which cares for and rehabilitates displaced or orphaned orangutans, the centre also has one of the world’s largest sun bear sanctuaries.

Established by the BORNEO ORANGUTANG SANCRUARY FOUNDATION (BOS) they aim to providing a safe haven for orphaned orangutangs and sun bears, whilst providing a source of income for local people, with sustainability and conservation are at the core of our values.

ACTIVITIES
ORANGUTAN SANCTURY
Experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see orangutans living on sanctuary islands up close. In this semi-wild environment you will watch them climb trees, play and explore. You may even get to see one of our resident baby orangutans.
SUN BEAR SANCURY
The BOSF also looks after a number of sun bears, which are the smallest bears in the world. You will have the opportunity to participate in building daily enrichment and observing the bears in close proximity.
CANOPE BRIDGE WALK
See the rainforest from a different perspective by walking along the Canopy Bridge, 30 meters above the forest floor and observe the wildlife that lives in the treetops!
YOGA WITH MOON
Classes will vary from energising Vinyasa, designed to inspire the body & mind. To Restorative Yoga for deep relaxation. Exploring breathwork, meditation, journaling & more to deepen the connection to yourself & the world around you. All levels welcome.
CACAO CEREMONY
On our final evening we will come together over a heart opening ceremony using the ancient medicine that is Cacao! What are you grateful for, what has the jungle taught you? This will be a ceremony of celebration and time to give thanks.
RIVER EXPEDITION
Take a leisurely boat ride along the Sungai Hitam river to see highly endangered proboscis monkeys and a river side village of houses built on stilts to learn about the local culture.
FULL DAY TREK
Less than one hour drive lies, Bukit Bangkarai, a protected forest area for orangutans, sun bears, proboscis monkeys, 242 species of birds (9 species of hornbills!) and more. We will spend the day exploring the jungle with experienced guides.
NIGHT MARKET
During your stay you will have the opportunity to visit the local night market, a brilliant experience to get an authentic taste of local life and try exciting Indonesian cuisine.
TREE PLANTING
There are more than 100,000 young trees
of many varieties in our nearby plantation. Make your contribution to regenerating the forest for years to come by planting your very own tree.
